The Fremantle Ports Harbour Master Classic run event will return to Victoria Quay for the fifth year on Sunday May 4, with entries open now!
More than 1000 runners are expected to ‘run the port’ in either the 5km or 10km event, with a special prize for every child in the 300m kids’ dash which closes out the morning.
Runners start in front of E Shed, head past the museum, submarine and out to South Mole, then return along Fleet Street, Slip Street and pass through a lumpers’ shed as part of the course.
Fremantle Ports’ Manager Communications and Community Neil Stanbury said it was one of two major run events on the Fremantle calendar, with the other being the Fremantle Running Festival in November.
“The WA Marathon Club, which runs the event so well each year, knows that the Harbour Master Classic is rated by runners as one of the highlights on their calendar.
“That’s because it’s a truly unique course, it attracts fun-runners through to elites, there’s entertainment on the course and it’s loads of fun,” Mr Stanbury said.
Each year, ships in the harbour sound their horns as runners toe the start line. It’s a great moment,” he said.
Every runner gets a medal, there are prizes for the best-dressed maritime costumes and the first 500 to register get a free running shirt.
