Fremantle Ports recently announced the latest recipients of its Community Investment Program. Grants are available for community organisations and initiatives that strengthen local communities, in Fremantle, Cockburn, Kwinana, and Rockingham.

The recipients in June were Notre Dame University – Citizen Science Marine Litter Monitoring in Cockburn Sound. This environmental research project invites regular beach goers to help monitor beach litter levels by picking up rubbish and depositing it in the 2m tall, bright blue seahorse-themed collection bin installed on Bather’s Beach. By removing the litter from the beach citizen scientists are helping to ensure harmful plastics and other items do not end up in stomachs of birds, fish and other marine mammals.
