Fremantle Chamber Orchestra's Clarinet Quartet
Date: 21/05/2017
Time: 2:00 PM to 3:40 PM
Location: St John’s Church, King’s Square, Fremantle
The 2 clarinet quintets (string quartet + clarinet) by Mozart and Brahms are very popular but clarinet quartets (clarinet, violin, viola, cello) are rarely heard.  FCO’s newly formed clarinet quartet performs “Forgotten Jewels of the Classic Period”.  The opener is a jolly work by the Finnish-Swedish Bernhard Crusell, a clarinettist himself, followed by Mozart’s magic oboe quartet (played by clarinet).  One of Haydn’s string trios with an exquisite Adagio gives our clarinettist a breather to join the strings again for a nearly romantic clarinet quartet by Czech composer Franz Krommer.
FCO’s Clarinet Quartet
Michael Hodgkins (clarinet), Kateryna Melnichenko (violin), Grace Ah-Quee (viola), Hans Hug (cello)
Crusell: Quartet No 1
