Drop off and pick up passengers from the Fremantle Passenger Terminal car park.

This depends on the size of the ship and the number of passengers embarking or disembarking. Passengers embark and disembark in stages. Disembarkation or embarkation of large ships with more than 2000 passengers and their luggage takes 4-5 hours. Smaller ships take less time to disembark and embark. All embarking and disembarking passengers must pass through customs, security and quarantine checkpoints.

The Fremantle Passenger Terminal is approximately 800m from Fremantle’s city centre. There are a number of options available to ship passengers. Taxis and ride-share will pick up and drop off at the passenger terminal, situated on Peter Hughes Drive. Alternatively, there is a free shuttle bus service that operates between the Fremantle Train Station and the terminal on a continuous circuit (about every 20 minutes) from an hour after the ship has berthed until approximately 4pm. You can also walk into Fremantle, by going west along Peter Hughes Drive towards the ocean, then left across the railway line at the pedestrian crossing. This takes 15 to 20 minutes. It should be noted that the pedestrian overpass directly opposite the passenger terminal is currently closed.

Due to operational and security requirements, the parking area at the terminal is for passenger pick-up and drop-off only. You cannot leave your car in the terminal car park while you are on a cruise. Any vehicle left unattended after a cruise ship has sailed may be towed and the owner fined.

However, there is long-term parking at the western end of Victoria Quay (Zone 3 dedicated all-day parking areas) near C and D Sheds. It costs $10 a day (plus 0.8% surcharge for credit/debit cards). This parking is not undercover nor is it secure and it is in demand. You can pay on arrival or use Wilson Parking Book a Bay (https://bookabay.wilsonparking.com.au/). If you are paying on arrival, pay for the number of days at the ticket machine by entering your vehicle registration (maximum 14 days - you will need to purchase 12 days in one transaction and, in a separate transaction, purchase an additional 2 days). Or pay in advance using Book a Bay online. You pay before you arrive and you park your vehicle in any vacant car bay in Zone 3. You can leave your car for your whole cruise; there is no cap on the maximum days allowed. By paying in advance, your car's registration plate is already recorded as paid with the parking inspectors.

With luggage, the walk to the train station will probably take about 20 minutes. You can cross the railway line at two places, either at the overhead pedestrian bridge (ramps not steps), which you can access from the terminal car park or leave the car park and walk in a westerly direction along the footpath outside the terminal (along Peter Hughes Drive) towards the train station. There is a pedestrian level crossing just west of the railway station. For turnaround cruises (where passengers are disembarking from the ship or joining a cruise) there is a free shuttle bus service that operates between the Fremantle Train Station and the Fremantle Passenger Terminal on a continuous circuit (about every 20 minutes) from an hour after the ship has berthed to 4pm. 

The terminal has a café, licensed bar area, public conveniences and complimentary wi-fi when cruise ships are in port. An escalator and lifts are available between the ground floor and upstairs area. A public phone is in the lower foyer. There are no shops.

A Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) counter operates at the terminal when a ship is going overseas. More information is on the Department of Home Affairs’ website. There are no shops in the terminal.

Yes, passengers may leave the terminal once their luggage has been checked in and they have visited the cruise check-in counter. Just make sure you leave enough time to return to the terminal to begin embarkation.

For embarking passengers boarding ships in the afternoon or evening, luggage can be left at the Passenger Terminal from about 10am in general. For some ships, luggage can be left earlier. There are no lockers at the terminal or any secure areas to leave bags for disembarking passengers. However, contact Pack and Send (Fremantle) or the Australia Hotel opposite the terminal for luggage storage for a small fee.

Visitors (non-passengers) are usually not permitted inside the terminal during large ship visits due to the large numbers of disembarking and embarking passengers. The terminal may be open to non-passengers during smaller ship visits.

The best places to see ships entering or leaving the harbour are on the western end of Victoria Quay (for example, near the B Shed Ferry Terminal, on the wharf side of A and B Sheds, or near the Western Australian Maritime Museum) or on South Mole or North Mole.
